PISA RANGE
PRIVATE PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR
WHY CHOOSE US ? Guide has 30 years 4WD experience All tours are PRIVATE Travel in a safe, modern Land Rover
This full day expedition provides a wonderful opportunity to explore and photograph the stunning Pisa and Criffel Mountain Ranges by 4WD. From the Cardrona Valley floor, we ascend through the tussock high country to a desolate wind swept alpine region sculptured by its harsh exposed environment. Once on the summit (1963m Mt Pisa), we are rewarded with a 360 degree smorgasbord of views including Lakes Wanaka. Hawea and Dunstan, with Cromwell town ship in sight as well as the Dunstan and Hawkdun Ranges. This tour provides a rare opportunity to explore an pristine alpine environment which is only accessible by 4WD 2-3 months a year.
Due to access requirements, this tour requires minimum 3 days notice for bookings. Please contact us for details.
FULL DAY TOUR
PISA RANGE
Leaving Queenstown we head over the Crown Range and follow on to the Cardrona Valley. Last coffee stop at the Cardrona village before we climb up onto the top of the Criffel Range at around 1500m. From here we start the 4WD section crossing onto Department of Conservation land and into the Pisa Conservation Area. Following a fun 4WD track we steadily climb to Mt Pisa at 1963m and its spectacular 360 vantage point. We spend the day exploring the stunning ridgeline and its amazing rock tors sticking out of the raw, barren, wind swept alpine environment. We finish the day with a well earned drink at one of New Zealand's oldest pubs, the 1863 Cardrona Hotel.

We booked the Pisa Range tour to see something a bit different and we were not disappointed. The road trip to the summit was full of interest and beautiful vistas. A stop at an alpine hut for morning tea was well timed. More climbing in our comfortable vehicle led us to the summit and 360 degree views of the Southern Alps, Lake Wanaka, Lake Hawea, Lake Dunstan, Cromwell and Alexandra – breath-taking! We enjoyed a tasty lunch at the summit taking in the views. At times we were above pockets of snow. Then there were the side trips to view alpine lakes and impressive rock tors. Plenty of opportunities for photos, we were never rushed and Del was full of information about the area’s rock formations, plant and bird life. This would have to rate as one of the best tours we have done. Del is a fantastic driver and tour guide, full of information and humour and gave us a wonderful day on Mt Pisa. We have no hesitation in recommending him and this tour.
