Del took us for a trip through the Nevis Valley, and what a trip that was!!!. He picked us up at our accommodation at 8 o'clock in the morning, and we had the entire day with him. We entered the Nevis in Garston and left at Bannockburn. What a day, it was awesome, we ( my husband and I ) found Del knew EVERYTHING about the area. As my family were in the area from the late 1800's through until 1930's, I found the whole experience simply wonderful. To be able to see the area that they survived in was eye opening.
While the scenery was spectacular, simply unbelievable, it was a pleasure to be able to sit back and have someone else take all the responsibility for the driving, this is no straight sealed highway, you certainly need to know HOW to drive through this valley, and Del certainly knew how to get us safely through.
But just as important ( our stomachs are very important, aren't they?? ha ha ha) we were provided with morning tea and lunch which quite simply were DELICIOUS.
The history of this valley is remarkable, and Del's knowledge of this history, the geology of the area and all information related to this area was great, we had a fun filled, remarkable full day with him, and we just THANK him for such a fabulous day.
Del returned us back to our accommodation at 5 o'clock, what a day,, we were so happy to have made the trip.

What a day we had, where do I even start?! I booked this trip to take with my Mum and Dad, in their late 60's, so I was a teeny bit nervous about how the day would go - but I really shouldn't have worried! The vehicle was clean (less so by the end of the day!) and super comfortable (even over the bumps!), and snacks and lunch were delicious too. Stops were well timed in frequency and duration, just be sure to have plenty of battery life for all the photos you'll take!
The Nevis Road certainly didn't disappoint with hills, mountain views, river valleys, farmland and a narrow gorge...the landscape was stunning in all types of light and weather.
And then there was Del. What a great guy, skilled driver and fantastic guide.
Del gave a great impression right from the time of booking and he certainly didn't disappoint in person. We never felt unsafe during the drive, even in the unexpected late spring snow encountered along the way. I'm fairly confident Del's knowledge of the history and geography of the area is endless, but he shares just the right amount of information. And his banter? Well, that's top notch!
We had a brilliant day out and loved every minute of it. So much so, my Dad is already plotting our next journey with 4WD Expeditions!Do it!

Highlight of our holiday so far. This time in NZ we wanted to get off the beaten track. Absolutely amazing! So completely different from the Queenstown side of the mountains. We are coming back in June 2020 to do it all again in the snow. Can't wait. Highly recommended. If you want a tour without sharing in a group this is perfect.

My wife and I recently did the Skipper’s Canyon tour with Del as our driver and guide. Del was fantastic - incredibly knowledgeable and experienced and showed us all the best features and views the canyon has to offer. He was great to have a chat with and share a few laughs - we learned so much along the way. My wife doesn’t normally do too well heights or steep drop offs on a bumpy road, but with Del’s experience on that road, she felt very safe and had the best time. We stopped in one of the most spectacular spots I’ve ever had the pleasure to have a delicious morning tea - supplied by Del (he even did an amazing job catering to our dietary requirements). Before going, I was a little concerned about heading out the same way as we came in, thinking that travelling the same route twice would take away from the experience - I couldn’t be more wrong! It was amazing travelling the same picturesque track with a completely different perspective, this was also enhanced by the different lighting and low lying cloud we experienced on the way in. I couldn’t recommend this tour with Del highly enough, we want to come back and do the same trip again, but in winter with some snow - we also want to see all the other trips Del has to offer. This is a must do!
